Wow, here we are again… already in the midst of Winter holidays!
Two quick items for you in this month’s post:
- As you probably already know, the broad stock market has had a great year (at least to the point that I’m writing this in early December!) It is also the time of year when most investment companies tend to report year-end capital gains distributions. For clients with large taxable accounts, this could lead to sizable tax consequences! Since successful investing is “not only about what you make, but also about what you keep”… we will be evaluating clients’ taxable accounts for opportunities to perform year end “tax-loss harvesting.” This strategy, in some cases, can significantly help reduce or eliminate the “taxing” effect of those capital gains distributions. Here is an article that posted earlier this year about the benefits of tax-loss harvesting and how it works: http://rockcrestfinancial.com/tax-loss-harvesting/
- Hey, it’s the holidays, and there are many things that I love about them… including the smells! So, I thought I would pass along this easy recipe for stove top potpourri. I love this combination of oranges, cranberries and cinnamon sticks! Just put the ingredients in a pot and simmer on low for a couple hours. Trust me…your house will smell amazing! Ingredients:
- ½ cup fresh cranberries
- 1 orange (sliced)
- 4 cinnamon sticks (broken in half)
- 1 TB cloves
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 2-3 cups water
And that’s it! Just combine the ingredients in a small pot and simmer over low heat for as long as desired. Add more water if it gets low. And enjoy the holiday scent!
And, finally, just a short end of year message to all my clients and those whom I’ve had the pleasure to be in contact with this year… THANK YOU! The success RockCrest has had over the past year could not have happened without the trust of our clients, and the support of those who referred business to us throughout the year!
Happy Holidays and Warmest Regards,
Steve
